BIPOC Scholarships

What is Out-of-Network Care?

Seedling Psychological is an Out-of-Network (OON) practice, meaning we do not bill insurance companies. If you have out-of-network benefits for behavioral health care, you can request we provide you a Superbill to submit for potential reimbursement. You can learn whether your policy covers some or all of your treatment by calling the customer support number on that back of your insurance card. There is more information about how to file for out-of-network reimbursements on the “Pay My Bill” page.

Why Don’t You Take Insurance?

Dr. Hernandez started Seedling Psychological after spending years navigating insurance policies, prior authorizations, and Medicaid managed care. When she began her own practice, her choice to remain Out-of-Network was an easy one. While being Out-of-Network can benefit those of economy privilege at the start, being able to maintain a self-pay caseload, allows Dr. Hernandez the time and financial framework to be able to give back to her communities in a way that is sustainable for both herself and her clients. With this model, those with more economic privilege can make an investment not only in their own mental health, but in the care of those benefiting from our sliding scale fees and scholarship opportunities.
